The Devil Inside trailer, the usual possession horror?
I feel like singing INXS, however when you watch the trailer you might not. It's not a bad trailer, in fact it has more story than most possession films, but the scares just don't come through in it at all and while there is a little bit of dread of what might happen I just didn't get any real horror or unnerving feeling from it.
I think this is partly because the possession, and especially the first person camera view possession film, has been seen a lot and there needs to be something new to be added to it. I'm not sure if this trailer promises it.
One thing that The Devil Inside does suggest is that there's going to be a strong base for a film here, the mother daughter story looks like it could build well and perhaps give us a good founding for the film, as well as deliver a reason for the first person camera action, something I find is all too often strung out a bit too much.
Here's the blurb for the film, which is short but to the point.
In Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.
One good thing about it is that it doesn't oversell the scares and horror, there's a fair bit of subtlety to the scares, but they just don't work on the trailer and I wasn't finding myself creeped out by it as much as I hoped I would be.
