21 Jump Street trailer...oh dear me
Remember 21 Jump Street the television series? Well take all those thoughts you have about it and any ideas you may have about it reaching the big screen and shred them right now, into very small pieces.
Done that? Right, now take a handful of the usual stock American comedy jokes and put them into the shell of the story of 21 Jump Street and you have your film. Oh boy, this trailer looks dull, uninspiring and just more of the usual.
One thing does strike me about this trailer is that it could well be an allegory for what these films are doing in Hollywood, making the old appear young for the masses to consume. There's an interesting, and I'm sure totally accidental parallel in there.
That's about as much intelligence as you'll get from this as we delve into what is 21 Jump Street the film. Prepare yourself for the usual run of jokes - high school; drug; sex; bullying; failure; bodily function, and more.
It strikes me that the last line of the trailer sums up my feelings for this. Laughs are nigh on non-existent, as is anything vaguely intelligent.
Here's the official blurb for 21 Jump Street to tell you otherwise:
In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.
Wow, does this relate to the trailer other than the few seconds of plot set-up? Ladies and gentlemen, the trailer for 21 Jump Street, the film.
Oh, alongside Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum we are seeing an appearance from Johnny Depp, that's just great. Is he playing a drunk character by any chance?
