The Cabin in the Woods trailer surprises

CabinintheWoods.jpgDirected by Drew Goddard and written by Josh Whedon, well that lined me up for a surprise from the opening moments because it looked more stock than a stock cube.

Group of young people off for a holiday, remote location, immediately mention no GPS, seemingly abandoned petrol station with a creepy and antagonistic attendant, it's check upon check as you scan down that horror list.

Then something happens.

Well for me the thing that happened with The Cabin in the Woods is not the two-way mirror or the strange phone call from the attendant but rather the Eagle flying into...well, whatever it is. Suddenly we're being shown that this is no normal horror.

There are some more beats in the trailer to keep us off the scent, but there are still whiffs of the familiar, although the cabin is clearly not all it seems and they aren't just being hunted down one by one by a strange killer, although they are.

Here's the blurb for the Josh Whedon co-written film which Drew Goddard co-wrote and directed and which stars Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford:

Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen.

If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes The Cabin in the Woods, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

"Mind blowing"? Wow, that does have to live up to a lot then. Here's the trailer from Yahoo Movies through TrailerAddict, I think it's suggesting that it could do just that, but does it matter if it doesn't? Whedon fans will be all over it.
