2012 Oscar Nominations announced

Oscar.jpgThe Oscar nominations for this year have arrived and the expected films are in there, as expected, but there are also a few surprises. Who realised that The Artist was going to be the second highest nominated film this year coming in behind Hugo as the first?

There are some well deserved mentions and nominations throughout the list, but I find myself rather uninterested in the expected list for Best Picture with the more interesting nominees coming down the list.

Some will be a little annoyed that Drive only got one nomination and Transformers: Dark of the Moon got three, you see adding up the number of nominations isn't always a good indication of worth, especially in the Oscars.

Although five for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is good to see and I'm delighted that Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, Christopher Plummer and Janet McTeer have all made it in there and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Filmstalker review) has had three nominations in total with The Iron Lady getting a couple too.

What do you think of the list so far, dominated as it is by Hugo?
