BAFTA 2012 winners announced

BAFTA.jpgWell if you didn't follow social media or watch the excellent show on BBC1 hosted by the incomparable Stephen Fry which was both hilarious, intelligent, sophisticated and had two of the best moments of awards ceremonies I've seen in a long time, then here is your catch up.

Still, I'd suggest hitting BBC iPlayer just to see the moment where Meryl Streep's shoe comes off and Colin Firth dashes to the rescue in wonderful style, or Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman presenting an award that was hilarious in itself.

The Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award (Voted for by the Public)
Chris Hemsworth
Chris O'dowd
Eddie Redmayne
Tom Hiddleston
Winner: Adam Deacon

Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema
John Hurt

The BAFTA Fellowship
Martin Scorsese

To be honest there aren't that many surprises and it's clear that The Artist is just going to keep winning all the way to the Oscars, although I have to express surprise at The Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award winner, Adam Deacon has appeared in a number of films playing pretty much the same character, there's not a lot of range as an actor and when pitted against these other names I'm shocked that he was the winner.

Glad to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Iron Lady making strong impressions on the awards and I'm really happy that Senna won best documentary. Big mention for Christopher Plummer winning Supporting Actor, and of course for Scorsese taking the Fellowship with a rather strange speech, and John Hurt taking the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema and asking Fry "how do I stop them" when the audience kept applauding and Fry returning "speak", and so he did.

Well done Mr Fry and the BAFTAs for another great year.
