Riddick sequel gets plot update

ChroniclesofRiddick.jpgTo be fair there's not a lot of new news coming out about the Riddick film, but Vin Diesel and his team are really good at utilising social media and keeping talk going about their projects, Riddick is no different.

This is the new Riddick film promising to encompass a lot more of the Pitch Black film that made the character so popular and a lot less of the Chronicles of Riddick that made him less so. Like most projects these days there have been stills being posted out now and again, and although we've had a plot before, this is new and updated and worth looking at.

The The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking is underway right now and from what's been said from both Vin Diesel and David Twohy are saying this could be a revival of the character as they turn back to the roots of the original film.

My only problem is that rather than keep the plot going from the second film, The Chronicles of Riddick, and take the character back to the one he was in the first film, they've decided to try and recreate the first film complete with a planet full of alien predators.

They have a new plot to go along with it, after all Riddick has been purposefully left there and mercenaries are out to get him rather than him protecting a group of survivors, but I do wonder if they could have kept going with that previous story but returned Riddick to his full glory.

Here's the blurb for the new film including details of the cast which came through JoBlo:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako and introduces to the series previously announced cast member Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (Devil) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle For Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk ("Aliens in America") and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

Is there a need to forget the second film? Anyway the good news is that we are getting to see the old Riddick back and that there's a pretty interesting cast list in there. Could this be the rise of the Riddick again?
