Closed: Win Don't Be Afraid of the Dark on DVD
To mark the release of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark on DVD and Blu-ray on the 20th of February, so that means it's out to buy already, Filmstalker has been given DVD's to simply give away in answer to ridiculously easy question.
For those of you who need reminded, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is the film which Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins adapted from the 1973 television film written by Nigel McKeand, directed by Troy Nixey and starring Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes.
The film tells the story of a young girl who is sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend as they renovate a grand old home. As she tries to get used to her new life, and her dad's new girlfriend, she discovers a hidden secret in the house, strange voices of creatures who want her to free them from their basement prison.
Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins last wrote Mimic together so the script is strong, and with Guy Pearce as one of the leads you know his performance will be worth watching but what of Katie Holmes? Well the answer there is not to worry for she does fit in well with the film and plays just as strongly as Pearce.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is directed by Troy Nixey who does a strong job of invoking scares from the creatures and the scenarios the child and the adults find themselves in. Here's the official trailer so you can see for yourself:
