Safety Not Guaranteed trailer has some nice moments
I'd never heard about Safety Not Guaranteed, but then it looks like if you weren't at the Sundance Film Festival then you wouldn't have heard that much about it either. It's a written by Derek Connolly and directed by Colin Trevorrow that stars Mark Duplass, Jake M. Johnson, Karan Soni, Aubrey Plaza, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Kristen Bell in a film about time travel and people.
Well I think it's more about people, trust and belief more than time travel, judging from the trailer that is, and it's been getting a lot of positive comments from its screening as well as well as winning the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance and being nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
Safety Not Guaranteed tells the simple story of a reporter finding an advert that is looking for a companion to travel with him back in time, something he claims to have already done once. The reporter takes two interns with him to hunt down the person behind the advert and get them to pose as the companion. They do, and slowly are pulled into his world and soon begin to believe in him as much as he believes in himself.
It looks a really nice film and is one of those which feels as though it might to play out something like K-Pax. The story isn't about the time travel, it's about growing to believe in the person, the relationships that foster, and anything that happens with the time travel plot is just extra, meanwhile it's going to keep us guessing all the way there.
