Antiviral trailer from Cronenberg Jr.
Brandon Cronenberg, son of David Cronenberg, is about to deliver his first feature film called Antiviral. He's written and directed the story that carries an interesting concept behind it and a couple of recognisable names with Caleb Landry Jones leading and Malcolm McDowell and Nicholas Campbell supporting.
The trailer is brooding, suspenseful and full of promise without giving anything away anything about the story, just as well there's a blurb to get your interest going.
The story for Antiviral goes like this:
Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion - for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.
Interesting idea and one you could imagine that the more unhealthy fans might be seen doing in the future in this messed up world of celebrity. I wonder if this will turn into a Cronenberg-esque D.O.A., or if Brandon Cronenberg is going to turn out to be like a young David Cronenberg, in which case some of us might be in for a disappointment and might have to wait for his work to mature.
However looking at this trailer I'm not so sure, this reminds me a little of the Sleeping Beauty trailer, which didn't turn out to be such a great film but the tone of the trailer was really engaging, and here I'm feeling the same thing.
