Sinister trailer looks...sinister?
I'm wondering if Ethan Hawke is making a little bit of a comeback. In the Edinburgh International Film Festival we're about to see him starring in the film Brake which some are saying is rather good, and then there's this new horror film which, if you watch the trailer looks like it could be pretty strong.
The film is directed by Scott Derrickson which is another great reason to see it, oh I know you're thinking The Day the Earth Stood Still, but that was well directed and the film he was previously known for, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, was way better. Apart from Hawke it also stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Clare Foley, James Ransone and Fred Dalton Thompson.
Scott Derrickson also wrote the film along with C. Robert Cargill who is a new writer to features although not new to film, he writes a fair bit for AICN so he has some strong knowledge of films and how they should play out.
Here's the blurb for Sinister:
Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still) directs Sinister which he also wrote along with newcomer C. Robert Cargill. Ethan Hawke stars as a struggling crime novelist whose desire for a new story leads him to the site of a horrific family murder. However, his investigation threatens to put his family in harms way as something still resides in the house that may be the key to learning the truth about the past murders.
Well, what do you think? It does look like it could be rather scary, but will it live up to the strengths of Derrickson on The Exorcism of Emily Rose (Filmstalker review) and will Cargill manage to keep the script from making all the common trips and falters that can make so many Hollywood horror films so poor?
