The Day trailer reveals post-apocalyptic trap
I hadn't heard of The Day but then it seems to have been completed since last year and not released, that's despite the fact that it stars Dominic Monaghan, Michael Eklund, Shannyn Sossamon, Ashley Bell and Shawn Ashmore, all names you might recognise. However looking at the writer and director credits I wasn't inspired to watch the trailer, but I did anyway and I it rather surprised me.
The trailer looks strong with a nice stylistic choice to the filming it presents a simple but strong plot device that looks like it could deliver an entertaining post-apocalyptic horror film.
Here's the blurb for The Day which is getting released in Russia and America this August after a few showings at festivals at the end of last year - why wasn't it at Edinburgh?
A group of five survivors, armed with shotguns, axes and machetes, wander the back roads of a ravaged landscape looking for refuge in The Day, a terrifying look into a post-apocalyptic future. As war ravages humanity, destroying civilization and most of life on earth, the survivors realize they must do whatever it takes to stay alive. Lost, starving, and exhausted, they seek shelter in a seemingly safe abandoned farmhouse. However, while searching for food and resources, they unwittingly set off a trap signaling to their ruthless predators lying in wait to begin their deadly attack. With food and ammunition dwindling, the group must make a desperate final stand-over a 24 hour period-battling for their ultimate survival.
The premise is rather attractive but my only fear for the film is that it might play out on stories we've already seen about being trapped in a location and fighting for your life, of which there have been many. So far though it sounds, and looks through the trailer, like it is going to offer something interesting, and it's a surprise choice for Dominic Monaghan, or perhaps not considering the post-Lost work.
