Expendables 3 already and with bigger cast?
Before I utter a word about this story and the almost legen...wait for it...dary casting on the third film let me get some things clear. Sylvester Stallone has said that this was it for The Expendables, just the two and it couldn't really go on again, the cast of the sequel is already huge, and the second hasn't even been released yet so it seems insane that there's a third already in the works.
Much less that the third contains the cast from the sequel as well as already having cast Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke, but these aren't the names that are exciting people, it's the mention of Clint Eastwood.
Let's be realistic though, the talk of The Expendables 3 is purely from a marketing point right now, the producer is pimping the ideas out there trying to get people's names attached to make it such an attractive proposition to the audiences that hype starts to build, and with that couple with the profits from the second film they hope to sell the third.
"We've approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we've got a character in mind for him. We're talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I'll give you one more name, we've got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters]...And we're going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won't be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]"
You are kidding me? Clint Eastwood has been approached already? Well he's done something similar before, remember Space Cowboys? Wesley Snipes seems like a natural addition more than Eastwood with Nicolas Cage feeling a little out of the zone of the rest of the action stars already there.
While Eastwood is perhaps the most surprising name mentioned it's just as surprising to hear that they are planning to take back the rest of the cast too, can you imagine the salary bill if they are taking all the stars back again? Of course we don't know how big their roles would be but it does seem a little bit farfetched.
Rumour for now or marketing pitch to the studios, whichever you prefer, but would you go for a third at this stage, and what do you think of the names involved? Snipes yes, Eastwood and Cage?
