Mental trailer with Collette, LaPaglia, Schreiber
P.J. Hogan has directed, as well as written, some strong films including Muriel's Wedding, My Best Friend's Wedding and Peter Pan, and he's turning his attention back to Australian life for his new film Mental.
The comedy carries a strong cast with Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia and Liev Schreiber in leading roles and it presents an incredibly mixed up family who make some hilarious and very bizarre decisions in what should be a rather dramatic story.
The blurb for Mental, as well as the title itself, lets you in on what's going on in the film, probably far better than I could do trying to explain it.
The Moochmore girls are certain they all suffer from some kind of undiagnosed mental illness - because if they're not crazy then they're just unpopular. Their mother Shirley - unable to cope with her demanding daughters and unsupported by her philandering politician husband, Barry - suffers a nervous breakdown. After Barry commits his wife to a mental hospital (telling his constituents that "she's on holiday") he finds himself alone with 5 teenage girls he barely knows. Desperate, he impulsively picks up a hitchhiker named Shaz and installs her in his home as nanny to his daughters.
Here's the trailer for Mental which looks like it could have some rather hilarious moments in it, and while it doesn't seem like it will be breaking box office records there are some great names in the leading roles who are playing some rather off the wall characters.
Just watch the trailer for Mental through TrailerAddict and you'll see just how, well mental, the three big names are getting to play their characters. This could be a lot of fun. Could it capture some of the Muriel magic?
So far we're waiting for a December release in the UK but Australia and New Zealand are seeing it in October. No other releases are planned at the moment though.
