Side by Side trailer features big name directors
Side by Side is a document which sounds like it could be very boring, looking at the "workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation", well don't be put off by that quote, listen to who the documentary will be talking to - James Cameron; David Fincher; Christopher Nolan; Martin Scorsese; Steven Soderbergh; Lars von Trier; Andy Wachowski; Lana Wachowski; Danny Boyle; Richard Linklater; David Lynch; George Lucas; Wally Pfister; Tom Rothman; Robert Rodriguez; Joel Schumacher; Michael Ballhaus; Michael Chapman, and the list goes on.
Talking to directors, editors, cinematographers, big names across the film-making process, it discovers the inside view on some of the big changes in the cinematic process including the impact of digital and 3D. It's a fascinating and eye opening documentary.
Here's the official blurb for Side by Side from the writer and director Christopher Kenneally:
The documentary investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation. We show what artists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish with both film and digital and how their needs and innovations have helped push filmmaking in new directions. Interviews with directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists, engineers and artists reveal their experiences and feelings about working with film and digital--where we are now, how we got here and what the future may bring.
The official trailer comes through Vimeo and Company Films and their Vimeo page:
The trailer actually looks rather fascinating, especially listening to some of the words of these talented people talking about their attitude to film and digital, much more interesting than the blurb suggests. It looks like it will allow us to find out why some of these creative people are making the decisions they do, and hearing it straight from their mouths too.
I'm definitely lined up to see this unfortunately it's only released online in the US at the moment, it might be hard to see it elsewhere, for now anyway.
