The Last Stand trailer, Arnie's first comeback film
Arnold Schwarzenegger is back. If you weren't sure before by just seeing The Expendables 2 trailers then you can be now as the trailer for the first film that he leads has been released and it's an interesting line-up.
The Last Stand is directed by Jee-Woon Kim and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford and Genesis Rodriguez. Now that's an interesting list.
It's particularly interesting that Jee-Woon Kim is directing, considering some of his previous films this could be a great thriller with a healthy dollop of off-the-wall humour, and looking at the trailer at least one of those is true.
Some of the other films that Kim has delivered are I Saw the Devil, The Good, the Bad, the Weird, A Bittersweet Life and A Tale of Two Sisters, all great films and there's a good mix of style in there too. I wonder how The Last Stand will turn out similarly or if he'll be tilting heavily towards Hollywood. I suspect the latter.
You can see from the trailer that Arnold Schwarzenegger looks a little stale in some of the clips although his comment about being old does fit well. I'm also not sure about Johnny Knoxville and the continually grinning and silly hat wearing character, feels a little too much like the oddities of The Good, the Bad, the Weird which might not go down so well in a Hollywood film, certainly doesn't for me in this trailer.
Here's a rather healthy blurb for The Last Stand:
Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his much-anticipated return to the big screen in Korean director Kim Jee-woon's hard-hitting US directorial debut, The Last Stand. After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.
Sounds a strong plot and I'm very excited to see Arnold Schwarzenegger back in action and Peter Stormare, Forest Whitaker and Eduardo Noriega are all drawing my eyes to that cast list.
