Whedon signs up for The Avengers 2
With The Avengers being such a success the real question wasn't whether Disney and Marvel would offer the job of the sequel to Joss Whedon but whether he would accept it, after all he did so well on the first they would have been mad not to offer him the sequel.
So they have, and he's said yes.
Joss Whedon will write and direct the sequel to The Avengers, however that comes with caveats, after all we don't know when a sequel will arrive since Marvel have announced they'll be delivering Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and a title just slotted in there, The Incredible Hulk television series.
While it's not clear if they really would need to wait until the television series revival is released, it's pretty certain they'll be waiting for Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and perhaps the Guardians to make their way through before we get a taste of the second Avengers film, so it's a little ways off yet.
The news comes through L.A. Times who suggest that the film won't be out until 2015 and have some more surprising news, Marvel are buying him up for the next three years.
Not only do Marvel have Joss Whedon for an Avengers sequel but they also have him for working on a new live-action television series as well as, and I quote...
"...contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel's cinematic universe."
Whatever that means, but it certainly means more Marvel projects even if it might just be as consultant on others script work but most likely a Producer role and perhaps even some other film projects as writer or maybe even director, just so long as it doesn't detract from The Avengers 2.
Does this mean we're going to get another Whedon television series that struggles to keep going through scheduling and ends up with a huge fan base regardless?
