Hitchcock trailer has Hopkins and Mirren

Hitchcock.jpgYou all knew that The Girl was a film about Alfred Hitchcock and his relationship with the actress Tippi Hedren who led The Birds well did you know that there was another Hitchcock film on the go, one that told the story of his making of Psycho? Well there is, and it looks like this time Toby Jones is up against Anthony Hopkins.

You might remember that Jones played Truman Capote in Infamous just before Philip Seymour Hoffman did the same in Capote, well now it's happening again but at least he's beaten Hopkins to the punch. Mind you, Hopkins Hitchcock looks a rather different portrayal and the film looks a very different take.

This is the story behind Psycho as much as it is behind Alfred Hitchcock and here we see Anthony Hopkins playing Hitchcock with Scarlett Johansson playing the leading lady of Psycho, Janet Leigh, but rather than the film examining their relationship it looks to the story behind the making of the film and his wife Alma Reville played by Helen Mirren.

Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, Toni Collette, Danny Huston, James D'Arcy, Michael Wincott and even Ralph Macchio co-star in this film. Yes, I did say Ralph Macchio.

I don't actually see it rivalling The Girl since the story is a different one in Alfred Hitchcock's life, looking at a different story and carrying a very different tone. Hitchcock appears to be a much more serious and straightforward story about what happened behind the scenes during the creation of Psycho.

Here's a bigger blurb for the film:

Sir Anthony Hopkins stars in the film, formerly known as "Alfred Hitchock And The Making Of Psycho," touted as a biographical comedy-drama that presents a behind-the-scenes look at the film, which was marred with controversy due to complaints about violence, nudity and other sexual content and claims that a body double was used in Leigh's place during the shower murder scene. It will also focus on Hitchcock's relationship with his wife Alma Reville, played by Dame Helen Mirren. The "Hitchcock" plot follows the troubled financing of Psycho," the directors battles with Hollywood censors and Hitchcocks desire to prove to his doubters, his wife and himself that he still had an edge.

Now here's the trailer for Hitchcock which comes through The Hollywood Reporter:

It's adapted from the Stephen Rebello novel by John J. McLaughlin who has also written on Black Swan (Filmstalker review) and the upcoming Parker and directed by Sacha Gervasi who last directed the documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil. We're due for a 2013 release starting in Australia in January and Europe and the UK from February.
