Sunshine on Leith, the Proclaimers musical, to be filmed
The Proclaimers seemed an unlikely group to follow the Abba model with a musical based on their songs but it happened and Sunshine on Leith took to the stage to surprising success. Now the man who wrote the stage musical, Stephen Greenhorn, has adapted it for a screenplay and a very well known British actor, and recently director, is set to direct.
Who would have thought that The Proclaimers would get a musical, more than that, a musical that gets turned into a film?
The musical uses the songs of the Scottish band The Proclaimers to tell the story of two soldiers returning from their tour of duty to Leith to restart their lives from where they left off, struggling returning to real life, to their friends, family and their relationships.
To add to all that the film is currently shooting in Scotland and will be filming across Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I'm really excited about the film, and yes because it's Scottish and it's filming in Scotland. My hope is that it turns out to be even half the hit that Mamma Mia! was, but will it get the same exposure? Certainly the music of the Proclaimers is well known as is the musical but far from the scale of Mamma Mia! (that's not my exclamation mark by the way).
