World War Z full trailer confirms teaser suspicions
There was still hope after the teaser trailer for World War Z suggested that this was going to be a complete out action film rather than the documentary interview style of the novel, perhaps it was just trying to sell the action side to those that weren't fans of the novel.
Now the full trailer is here and although it does look impressive and the shots of the zombies look more like swarming rats than the slow brooding zombies of old, this is looking nothing like an adaptation of the book.
Here's a blurb for World War Z (Amazon.co.uk) by Max Brooks:
It began with rumours from China about another pandemic. Then the cases started to multiply and what had looked like the stirrings of a criminal underclass, even the beginnings of a revolution, soon revealed itself to be much, much worse. Faced with a future of mindless, man-eating horror, humanity was forced to accept the logic of world government and face events that tested our sanity and our sense of reality. Based on extensive interviews with survivors and key players in the 10-year fight-back against the horde, World War Z brings the very finest traditions of American journalism to bear on what is surely the most incredible story in the history of civilisation.
Now that's the novel outline, now the focus has changed somewhat and while it's still the worldwide outbreak there's something a little different, here's the blurb for the film:
A U.N. employee is racing against time and fate, as he travels the world trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly Zombie pandemic.
Now we saw from the World War Z teaser trailer that it was looking more like action than the viewpoint of the novel, well that's just about all the trailer offers us, action.
That probably won't be a bad thing because what we do see of the action looks fantastic, big budget, cool styling, and some amazing scenes of the swarming zombies, but nothing of what made the original book so appealing, well apart from the fact that they've trying to keep to some sort of reality.
Well? What did you think?
