Mud trailer has bad guy McConaughey
I really enjoyed seeing Matthew McConaughey in the recent Killer Joe (Filmstalker review), it felt like all that romantic comedy was behind him and the actor was coming out again, and boy what a performance and what a character he delivered.
So imagine how I feel to see him in the trailer for Mud where he looks set to play another rather unhinged and very dangerous character, all that brimming under the surface of a man with plenty of charisma.
Mud sees him starring with some other strong actors and actresses, Reese Witherspoon, Michael Shannon, Sarah Paulson, Sam Shepard, Ray McKinnon and Joe Don Baker under the keyboard and directorship of Jeff Nichols, the writer and director of Take Shelter (Filmstalker review).
The film was shown almost a year ago at Cannes and has waited this long for a release which it is finally getting in America. It tells the story of two teenagers who find a boat stranded in a tree after some particularly strong floods. They make it a hideaway until they discover that someone else is staying there, a strange man going by the name of Mud who intends to repair and refloat the boat in order to escape the island they are on, an island cut off by the police searching for a murderer.
They help the man find food, provisions and then supplies to repair the boat, listening to his story of waiting for his lost love to meet with him and escape from the police together, but behind that there's a much darker story.
There are a lot of strong comments and reviews out there for the film and the Yahoo Movies trailer through The Hollywood Reporter looks very good for Matthew McConaughey as well as for Jeff Nichols. Here's the trailer:
Looks good doesn't it?
