Night Train to Lisbon trailer shows big cast
I had never heard of the film Night Train to Lisbon and so it was with great surprise that I watched the trailer and discovered a number of very recognisable names - Jeremy Irons, Christopher Lee, Charlotte Rampling, Lena Olin, Tom Courtenay, Jack Huston, Mélanie Laurent, August Diehl and Bruno Ganz - a strong cast indeed.
The director is Bille August who has directed films such as Goodbye Bafana, The House of the Spirits, Smilla's Feeling for Snow and Les Misérables and coupled with the cast list above I'm really drawn to the film, I just wish the trailer sold it better.
Night Train to Lisbon is adapted from the novel by Pascal Mercier and tells the story of...
An aging Swiss professor of classical languages who, after a chance encounter with a Portuguese woman, quits his job and travels to Lisbon in the hope of discovering the fate of a certain author, a doctor and poet who fought against Portuguese dictator Antonio de Oliveira Salazar.
What does grab you is the quality and experience of talent in the trailer - Jeremy Irons, Christopher Lee, Charlotte Rampling - but what doesn't grab you is the trailer. It looks nice but really, is all the artiness selling you to the idea of the film? No, it's the big stars.
Here's the trailer through TrailerAddict for Night Train to Lisbon:
The film, according to IMDB, is scheduled for release in Germany on the 28th of February and in the Netherlands on the 18th of April, not an extensive release but you'd imagine with the talented names in front of and behind the camera it would be seeing a wider audience.
