Red 2 trailer, oldies but goodies

Red2.jpgThis shouldn't be the biggest trailer I've seen this week but it certainly is the funniest and the one I'm looking forward to the most. Oh I know that the Red 2 trailer isn't packed with jokes about penises and bowel movements but remembering how enjoyable Red was has me excited about the team's return.

The good thing is that they're all back as well, Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker and Helen Mirren along with some new faces - Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, David Thewlis, Neal McDonough and Byung-hun Lee.

You'll remember that Red (Filmstalker review) was a bit like a more refined version of The Expendables, a team of retired Black Ops members are pulled out of retirement when they are targeted by the new era of spies trying to clean out the old liabilities. They get together, or rather are pulled back together, and fight back.

This new story sees the same team pulled back into operation and the new trailer even shows that some of them have been pitted against each other, at least for the duration of a phone call and an acid bath.

I loved the first film for the way it had that tongue in cheek mix of dealing with growing old mixed with being a spy, and it had some great lines and character moments, who doesn't forget Helen Mirren with that huge machine gun going mad for it in her beautiful frock? Expect more of that, much more.

The film is directed by Dean Parisot who has been directing television for some time but has some notable film credits to his name, Fun with Dick and Jane and the superb Galaxy Quest and it is written by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber from the Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner graphic novel.

Here's the trailer for Red 2 which comes through Deadline and looks a lot of fun already:

Release wise we're looking at the start of August for Australia, Russia, Ireland, UK, America, Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark with France and Germany in mid-September to be able to see Red 2, so far anyway. I'm there.
