The East trailer attacks the corporate at home
There's an interesting idea coming out of the trailer for The East, a new film showing at the Sundance Film Festival, a film from director Zal Batmanglij who directed and also co-wrote with Brit Marling the film Sound of My Voice and who together co-wrote this film. It delivers a clever premise in a trailer that offers a kind of marketing tool for an anarchist group.
The film stars Marling as well as Ellen Page, Alexander Skarsgård, Patricia Clarkson, Julia Ormond and Toby Kebbell as well as a number of other recognisable names. The trailer alone has me interested although might it actually provide some anarchist groups with potential ideas?
The story for The East, which is the name of the anarchist group, sees an ex-FBI agent tasked with the job of infiltrating the group but when they do so they end up falling for the leader and, presumably, becoming all embroiled in their ideas and plans.
It isn't a million miles away from some of the ideas around Sound of My Voice but the premise and hopefully the execution look very different.
The trailer comes through Deadline and does intrigue, have a look and see what you think.
Looks good, has you interested in the idea and delivers a strong cast. These film-makers have definitely taken a big step forward from their last film, will this deliver another strong step forward?
