The Tower trailer is every disaster film in one
Having seen a few teasers for the Korean disaster film The Tower I wasn't really sure what to expect from it but the full trailer delivers much more than the teasers could have and seems to have nods to just about every major disaster film going.
What's also interesting is perhaps how it might feel to western audiences as watching that trailer I could not help but think to 2001 however that doesn't mean I don't welcome the film as a piece of entertainment, I do and I think it looks fantastic.
From director Ji-hoon Kim and writer Sang-don Kim The Tower sees a fire break out in a massive tower complex during a massive party for the higher paying tenants and celebrity and VIP guests. During the events a massive accident occurs, there are explosions, fire and disaster galore with heroes emerging from above and below.
It looks pretty epic all the way through and definitely a film worthy of watching, here's the blurb from the production company to give you an insight:
On Christmas Eve at Tower Sky, an ultra-luxurious building complex, a White Christmas party is held to dazzle its equally high-end tenants and VIP guests. Dae-ho, the manager of the building and single father, is forced to cancel plans with his daughter Hana to work the event. His Christmas is saved when Yoon-hee, the food mall manager with a secret crush on Dae-ho, offers to babysit Hana during the party. Meanwhile, Young-ki the legendary fire chief of Yoido Station has finally promised his first holiday date night to his long suffering wife. The party is in full swing with the spectacular sight of two helicopters flying overhead just to spray snow on the partygoers and make everything perfect. When unthinkable disaster strikes, Dae-ho and Young-ki must summon all their strength and courage to save the lives of thousands but at what cost to themselves and their loved ones?
It really does read like a lot of previous disaster films we've seen, particularly The Towering Inferno, I mean how could you not make comparisons with that film?
