Neil Jordan's Byzantium trailer revealed
A trailer for the Moira Buffini written and Neil Jordan directed vampire film Byzantium has arrived online and it does look intriguing. There's a sense of the gothic to the modern story as well as the promise of an interesting take on the vampire legend, plus there's an excellent cast with Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Sam Riley, Tom Hollander, Jonny Lee Miller, Caleb Landry Jones and Daniel Mays.
Of course there's the fact that Jordan is directing too but I have to say that mix of names is the thing that's currently drawing me to it the most and I'm gutted that there aren't any tickets left to see it at the Glasgow Film Festival this year.
Here's a quick outline for the plot of Byzantium:
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
Moira Buffini wrote the play that she adapted for the script, she recently wrote Tamara Drewe and the Cary Fukunaga directed Jane Eyre, so there's a lot of talent there before we even get to the screen. Neil Jordan has directed Byzantium and you'll know that he has previously directed films such as The Company of Wolves, Mona Lisa, The Crying Game, Michael Collins, The End of the Affair, The Brave One and Ondine.
Add on the acting talent involved and I think we're onto a winner of a film, here's the trailer through TrailerAddict to give you a feel for the style and the story.
