Byzantium trailer looks glorious
Neil Jordan's Byzantium has a trailer and finally a release date for the 31st of May in the UK, Ireland and Romania, spreading across the world in June and July. The film is written by Moira Buffini who also wrote Jane Eyre and Tamara Drewe, and stars Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Sam Riley, Johnny Lee Miller, Sam Riley, Kate Ashfield, Daniel Mays, Caleb Landry Jones, Warren Brown and Tom Hollander.
It's a great cast and Film Festival programming refused me a chance to see it last year as it clashed with another big release I wanted to see. Now I'm finally going to get the chance as it comes to the cinema, and judging by the trailer it's going to be a worthwhile wait.
Here's the story for Byzantium:
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
There's a great cast in the film and I'm interested by the direction it takes with the mother and daughter and the fact that they are being persecuted by their group for being women, all within the confines of a story of vampires really does sound interesting, particularly as the trailer seems to set mother against daughter at one point.
Now for the trailer for Byzantium which comes through which does look good:
