Venus and Serena, a documentary
After watching the trailer for Venus and Serena I admit to being very surprised that there hasn't been one made before now, after all they are the most amazing pair of sisters who have dominated women's tennis and overcome amazing odds at the start of, and during their careers, and have risen to the top of their game.
The documentary look at the William's sisters doesn't just seem as though it's going to concentrate on them alone but also look at tennis and how hard a sport that can be, particularly on the human body. Really though it's the promise of a never before seen insight into the sisters that will attract us all to this.
Both names behind the camera are first time directors and the other credits to their names are only production credits with Baird carrying a couple of technical credits too. It seems amazing that these two powerhouses of business, as well as being megastars of sport, would let a documentary like this into their lives, but they have.
Here's the overview for Venus and Serena:
Ever since Venus and Serena Williams started playing in tennis tournaments, they've provoked strong reactions - from awe and admiration to suspicion and resentment. They've been winning championships for over a decade, pushing the limits of longevity in such a demanding sport. How long can they last? In Venus & Serena, we gain unprecedented access into their lives during the most intimidating year of their career. Over the course of 2011, Venus grappled with an energy-sapping autoimmune disease while Serena battled back from a life-threatening pulmonary embolism. Neither Venus nor Serena let their adversities hold them back. They drew their greatest strength from each other.
The trailer really does make the film look interesting, and mainly because it isn't just all behind the scenes moments with the two but that it begins to look at the turbulent time of injury and comeback.
