Maniac trailer looks far better than the rest
I haven't really been sold on a modern remake of a slasher film, after all the attempts to remake old horror classics and cult films has been far from successful, even with recognisable names in them. Watching the previous Maniac trailers that what I've been thinking and no matter how stylish or unique they looked with the point of view camera, I wasn't convinced.
The new trailer has clawed me back a little though as it does look a lot more thoughtful than the previous. Perhaps it was slow move to gradually try and hook in the original slasher crowd and now they're concentrating on the newer audience.
Then again, perhaps not. The new trailer for Maniac still has everything the previous trailers have had it's just that this one feels slicker and suggests a bit more of a story behind it too. Here's the blurb to tell that story:
Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank's obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill. A 21st century Jack the Ripper set in present-day LA, MANIAC is a re-boot of the cult filmconsidered by many to be the most suspenseful slasher movie ever made - an intimate, visually daring, psychologically complex and profoundly horrific trip into the downward spiraling nightmare of a killer and his victims.
Here's the new Maniac trailer through TrailerAddict with Elijah Wood in the lead. I recently saw Sin City (Filmstalker review) again and I was reminded how much of a good character he is when he's playing a bad guy, mind you it was hard to make him out over the effects.
