Blue Jasmine trailer, Woody Allen's latest
Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Bobby Cannavale appear in the new trailer for Woody Allen's latest film, actually Sarsgaard doesn't but he's in the film. Anyway the trailer doesn't really set the world on fire and if it weren't for the big names starring in it I think it would have passed me by. In fact I think it was close to passing me by anyway.
There's plenty for the Woody Allen fans out there in the Blue Jasmine trailer and judging from the performance I think we might see Blanchett playing a typically neurotic Allen character.
That's not to say it's a bad thing, although it's a very common thing, but it does look like it's giving the wonderful Cate Blanchett a character to really get into and give some depth to. She's certainly got the talent to carry it off it's just that we don't get to see it too often.
Blue Jasmine is the story of a woman whose life is overturned when it turns out her husband is a criminal and has robbed her blind of everything she had become accustomed to. Dropped from the higher echelons of her high-flying life she arrives in San Francisco and lives with her sister, a sister she has been shunning while she was rich but now turns to when she has nothing.
The cast is strong and from the trailer you can see that there is plenty opportunity for good performances, especially if Woody Allen is providing the usual mix of dysfunctional characters.
Here's the trailer for Blue Jasmine. I think it's all going to depend on whether you like Woody Allen, no matter who stars in it.
