1 trailer shows the terrible toll of F1
Fans of Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsport, tend to appreciate the history and the dangerous sport it once was, and while we might long for the good old days of racing none of us want the return to the level of danger it brought.
Those who are dismissive of the sport and complain about rules, restrictions and perhaps even safety, don't really appreciate where the sport came from and what these early champions had to drive through.
1 sets out to explain that past and tell some of the stories of the drivers who died and those who have survived them, and explain what Formula 1 is and how it came to be the sport it is today.
The new documentary 1 from director Paul Crowder and written by Mark Monroe, who also wrote on The Cove (Filmstalker review) and The Tillman Story, is narrated by Michael Fassbender, a keen Formula 1 fan, and features screeds of famous Formula 1 names from all aspects of the sport, including legends such as Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi, Michael Schumacher, Jody Scheckter, Jody Scheckter, right up to the current drivers of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and more.
The film tells the story of the drivers who began the sport, living their lives on the edge and facing death with every corner and the men who stood up against the dangers and began to push the sport to make it safer but just as exciting.
The trailer for the film, and I do openly admit I'm a big Formula 1 fan, looks fantastic. Not just for having so many famous faces in there from the sport but also because of the footage it carries and the way it looks like it will cast an unflinching eye over the history of the sport.
This is a great way to build interest in the sport from people who disregard it not knowing what it really is about nor what stories the past holds.
If you aren't an F1 fan and have heard me talking about why there should be more films about the many, many stories that are in the sport, then this documentary looks like it will help you understand why I say that. F1's history, and you don't have to go too far back, is filled with stories of people pushing beyond their capabilities with backdrops of politics and intrigue that wouldn't be out of place in a plot filled thriller.
Here's the trailer for 1 through TrailerAddict that really does scream for your attention:
