What does Grace of Monaco teaser tease?
There had been some confusion about the film Grace of Monaco especially around the fact that the centre of focus for the story would be the political dispute between Monaco's Prince Rainier III and France's Charles De Gaulle which carried some serious threats for Monaco but also defined its future.
Strange then that the film appears to be about Princess Grace, the beautiful and iconic Grace Kelly who married the Prince and became a Princess, leaving Hollywood behind her.
I still find that rather confusing and more so now that there's a trailer out for Grace of Monaco which seems to be selling the film on the Princess Grace story without a hint of the political side whatsoever.
That said it is a gorgeous trailer that looks and sounds luxurious but offers little other than style and Nicole Kidman looking like Nicole Kidman in stylish outfits and locations.
While there is some confusion as to how the story is going to play out there are plenty of naes to reassure - Olivier Dahan directing the Arash Amel script, Kidman, Tim Roth, Derek Jacobi, Frank Langella, Paz Vega, Milo Ventimiglia, Parker Posey, Geraldine Somerville, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Robert Lindsay, all add weight to the film.
I wonder if the distraction of that political situation is just to add some dramatic weight to a story that would otherwise be rather light and airy. After all the story of Grace Kelly passing stardom up for the role of a Princess and then dying tragically in an accident that left such a legend to her name isn't really screaming drama.
The film is released in America on November 27th and in the UK on the 29th so we will be able to tell then, I do hope that there's a more content rich trailer before then though.
Here's the current Grace of Monaco teaser found through Deadline which sets the tone and the mood.
