UK ISP's deal to hit file-sharers

PCScreen.jpgThe British Government has finalised a deal between the British film and music industries and the Internet Service Providers (ISP's) to start hitting back at those who the industries believe are downloading and sharing illegal files.

The deal ensures that both the copyright holders and the ISP's will work together to identify those file-sharers that they believe are sharing files illegally and send them warning emails, with possible repercussions for repeat offenders.

Venom writers/creators on spin off

Venom.jpgWith Sony's Venom spin off film still moving along, the creator and writers have been talking about the film. They've been saying what they think will be needed, if a Venom spin off film is to work.

Sony are hoping that a Venom film could help give the Spiderman series a boost. And from what the creator and writers say, Sony may want to get them working on the film.

De Niro and Gibson in Edge of Darkness

MelGibson.jpgRobert De Niro and Mel Gibson, now that sounds like a good on screen combination that doesn't rely on the usual usual pairings of talent. What's more is that they are starring in the adaptation of the successful British television miniseries Edge of Darkness.

What's more is that William Monahan wrote the adaptation, the man who successfully adapted Infernal Affairs to The Departed (Filmstalker review), and the film will be directed by Martin Campbell.

Swayze for Dirty Dancing 2?

DirtyDancing.jpgI'd take the following news with a lump of salt. But fans of Dirty Dancing brace yourself, Patrick Swayze could be thinking about starring in a sequel. With Swayze doing well despite his battle with cancer, offers are lining up. And a second Dirty Dancing sequel may be one of them.

I've seen the film a couple of times, but it's far from my favourite film. There are some die hard fans out there though. Would you want a sequel?

Doom sequel?

Doom_Poster.jpgDo you want to see a sequel to Doom (Filmstalker review)? Well I used to love the videogame series and was always beating everyone at work...well most of the time anyway, but the film wasn't that good.

Saying that it had a lot of potential, and it did have some great aspects to it, but do you really want to see the sequel?

Lisberger not off of Tr2n (Tron 2)

Tron.jpgI wrote a story about what happened behind that Tr2n aka Tron 2 teaser that's been showing on Filmstalker, and still is, since it was first released on the Internet, and it was pretty much that Steve Lisberger, the original creator of Tron, had spent over five years developing a sequel and had been dropped by Disney.

Well not true tells Lisberger himself, in fact he's heavily involved in the project and will be working on the sequel to ensure that they keep that original feel and style.

The Mutant Chronicles trailer online in English

TheMutantChronicles_Poster.jpgPreviously on Filmstalker I posted the teaser trailer for The Mutant Chronicles and then the Russian trailer for the film, well now the English version of that Russian language trailer has appeared online.

With these two trailers I thought that the film didn't look that great and the stylistic effects were overpowering the story. However with this trailer I think I might be changing my mind.

Pride and Glory trailer online

ColinFarrell.jpgI haven't really taken in much about Pride and Glory, but noticing that it has both Edward Norton and Colin Farrell in dramatic roles does peak my interest, and it should yours too, especially with the story that it reveals.

They play brother-in-laws in the NYPD. Norton's character is pulled into a task force made up of Policemen that can be trusted to investigate the gunning down of a group of fellow officers under the command of his brother.

The Host II teaser online

TheHost_Poster.jpgWell the first teaser has appeared online for The Host II, and it's a very clever one, but to be honest a complete cop out and cheat for those looking for a new The Host film.

I'm one of those people. I really enjoyed the first and thought it managed successfully to bring together so many different genres of film and provide something different from the mainstream. Plus it was hugely entertaining and fun.

Carpenter and Cage are scared

JohnCarpenter.jpgIn fact the combination is scaring me too. Nicolas Cage and John Carpenter are in final negotiations to star and direct a prison thriller called Scared Straight. In case you're wondering that's respectively, Carpenter will direct and Cage will star.

The film seems to contain whiffs of Con Air, and seems like comfortable territory for Cage. Perhaps Carpenter can produce something special, and maybe even give us something more from Cage rather than his recent performances.

Greek soldier memoirs film

Anabasis.jpgNow this is interesting, mostly the announcements of new projects fly by, but this one caught my eye. Anabasis are the memoir's of a Greek soldier called Xenophon who was one of ten thousand elite mercenaries who attacked the Persian Empire.

The story tells of how their leader was betrayed and slain and how he led them back through hostile territory to safety. Perhaps this is to balance the story from 300?

Firth and Barnes in Dorian Gray

ColinFirth.jpgNow here’s an interesting casting story, Ben Barnes has been pinned to play the lead alongside Colin Firth in a film based on Oscar Wilde’s classic story The Picture of Dorian Gray.

The story, for those of you who don’t know Wilde or haven’t seen The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, follows Dorian Gray, a man who has his portrait painted, and while he advances in years he doesn’t age but the painting does.

Batman 3 casting getting ridiculous

JohnnyDepp.jpgI don't know what it is with these rumours about The Dark Knight sequel, which we'll call Batman 3 for now, but it seems to be going crazy with "who could be the next villain?" and "which big name star could play them?", and the next one is out and it's rather fantastical too.

I'm surprised that this is happening so much considering that we don't actually have the Nolan brothers on board to write, nor is it a certainty that Christopher Nolan will direct.

Tr2n (Tron 2) behind the footage

Tron.jpgAccording to reports the originial director and co-writer of Tron has no real involvement in the new film, and that's allegedly because John Lasseter thought that although Tron was superb and was totally taken with it, they missed a real chance to make something totally compelling.

So although Steve Lisberger has spent years working on a new script, that went out the window and Lasseter hired some new names.

The Argentine, Che Guevara trailer online

CheGuevara.jpgThe first trailer for Steven Soderbergh's The Argentine has appeared online, and while it's in Spanish, it does look pretty epic and is worth a look just to see, because it may be a long time before we see the final film.

The film was played at the Cannes Film Festival and ran over four hours, so there's no doubt a lot of work to do yet. At the moment all we can do is watch Benecio del Toro as Che.
