Carpenter to make Darkchylde film

Darkchylde.jpgNow I wouldn't have thought to pair these two names together, but it does look like John Carpenter is going to be making the film version of the comic character Darkchylde.

The story of Darkchylde is about a gorgeous teenage girl called Ariel Chylde who carries a curse that allows her to change into different creatures from her nightmares. Every time she changes a different creature uses her to come through to this world. From there on she has to chase them down and return them to their own world.

The Darkchylde film really comes out of that test footage that Weta made, which we saw and heard about some time ago, was what really powered this film forward. Here's that test footage introduced by some comic panels and those behind the work at WETA and closed with some behind the scenes work:

Now to the official press release:

John Carpenter is onboard to direct Darkchylde, based on the comic by Randy Queen about a good hearted southern teen cursed to become the creatures from her many recurring nightmares. Every time Ariel Chylde transforms, she sheds her skin and a new nightmare emerges from her Id to act out her deepest, darkest impulses.

John Carpenter and Sandy King's Storm King Productions have allied with Randy and Sarah Queen's Darkchylde Ent. to produce the film, following the release of test footage created by Richard Taylor's Academy Award Winning Weta Workshop. (The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, King Kong, The Hobbit)

John Carpenter said of the character:

”Randy Queen's hijacked angel, Ariel Chylde, is the best young female character since Laurie Strode in Halloween. Bringing Ariel and her dark mysteries to life should be quite an adventure for us all.”

Randy Queen, the creator of the character, also commented on the official press release for Darkchylde over at Darkchylde that Twitch carried, and he does carry my sentiments too, in fact probably just about every horror fans':

”As a horror fan, the thought of Carpenter and Weta together, beautiful dreamscapes, and multiple transformations, makes me incredibly excited. There is a reason nearly his entire catalogue has, or is being remade, and it's because Carpenter is a genius.”

Wow, it's some great news indeed, WETA and Carpenter promises something really strong, I just wonder if it's going to be made into a franchise, or at least pitched that way? Of course it will. The real question is who will play the lead role? Would it be Amber Heard taking a Carpenter leading role again?
