Rango trailer sees Depp out of water

Rango.jpgI think the best thing about this trailer for Rango is the fact that Johnny Depp isn't conjuring up images of a pirate, something I felt he was still doing even in The Tourist. The second best thing? Well the trailer makes the film look a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be originally with a heavy slant towards family entertainment.

The cast is impressive with Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy, Timothy Olyphant, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Ray Winstone, Ned Beatty, Harry Dean Stanton, Ryan Hurst (man I love the Sons!), Alanna Ubach, Claudia Black, Stephen Root, and more.

Rango is an animated adventure that's set in an inhospitable desert populated with animal characters playing out the roles of a typical western, and the comedy classic situation of the hopeless stranger being picked to save the town and become the Sheriff. Here's the proper blurb for Rango:

A chameleon that aspires to be a swashbuckling hero finds himself in a Western town plagued by bandits and is forced to literally play the role in order to protect it

I have to admit that during production the things I was reading were making me believe that this could be much, much odder than it's actually turned out. It does look good from the trailer, and the humour isn't over the top and in your face.

You can see the trailer right here through Yahoo Movies:

What do you think? Could it beat Pirates? Perhaps Gore Verbinski is secretly hoping it will.
