Albert Einstein biographical film?

AlbertEinstein.jpgAlbert Einstein is getting a biographical film, something I thought was happening years ago. This version will be from director Wayne Wang and screenwriter Ron Bass, the script for Einstein promises a lot.

There's also a lot of ground to cover for the man didn't exactly lead an average life, and they probably won't even look at his search for the theory of relativity.

There have been a few attempts at bringing Albert Einstein to life before, in 2006 we were hearing that Sean Penn might be playing him after reading the script from Ripley's Game writer Liliana Cavani.

Then we heard that Giovanni Ribisi was to play him in a film we knew nothing else about.

In 2007 we heard that the book Einstein: His Life and Universe (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) was to be adapted to a film, one that would look at Einstein's personal life a lot more than his professional one.

That was closely followed by the news that the news that the novel The Private Lives of Albert Einstein (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) was also going to be adapted, another film that looked to his private life and this one in a less than flattering way.

It's that story that seems to be the basis for this film as Ron Bass was attached as writer, but there was nothing further heard from the project.

Wayne Wang previously directed films such as The Joy Luck Club, Smoke, Maid in Manhattan and Last Holiday, and so the idea that he's making a film called Einstein seems quite a stretch, especially if it is the same one touted back in 2007 which was going to look at Einstein's personal struggles and relationships.

A production company behind the film, HSI Films, says through The Hollywood Reporter that Einstein will tell...

"...the true inspirational story of the trials, tragedies and vindication of the single-most celebrated scientist of the 20th century. Torn between the burdens of a family and his restless pursuit of unlocking the mysteries of the universe, he not only achieved unparalleled stature as a genius but he also changed the world forever -- at no small cost to himself and those around him."

That does sound like it could be that film from back in 2007 adapted from the Walter Isaacson biography of the same name.

There's nothing else about the project, but it does sound like it's going to get made if they've been working on it this long. Bass was interrupted on his scriptwriting because of the writer's strike, now that is a fair development time.

I wonder though, who will play Einstein now? Will it be a number of actors, or just one?
