TRON: Uprising trailer bridges the gap

TRONUprising.jpgA trailer has arrived for the new TRON, not a film though, this is the animated series that is set to bridge the gap between TRON and TRON: Legacy (Filmstalker review), and while that will excite fans of TRON and the rather excellent sequel, I'm not sure that the trailer will fuel that excitement.

The trailer does look cool but I wonder if it's delving into a time period we really don't want to know more about and the concentration should be on a TRON: Legacy (Filmstalker review) sequel with as much money, enthusiasm and quality as that film had.

Looking at the trailer for TRON: Uprising it tells us that a program picks up the fight after TRON is defeated and the darker programs take over again, and we're going to see the new program, called Beck, trained by TRON to take over the fight, here's the blurb:

Beck, a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu 2 and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron - the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known...

...Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful leader. Destined to become the new protector of the system, Beck adopts Tron's persona and becomes the archenemy of Tesler and his oppressive forces.

It's going to bridge that gap and tell that story, but do we really want to go back? Don't we all want to know what happens after TRON: Legacy (Filmstalker review)? I know I do and while it may be interesting to see what happens in the middle we do know the beginning, the end and a few of the paths in the middle.

The voice cast includes Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reubens and of course Bruce Boxleitner himself, plus Steven Lisberger has been involved in the creation, so this could all be quite the surprise.

Here's the trailer for TRON: Uprising through Quiet Earth for you to see what you think, some have been saying that they don't like the style but if people are going to accept the style of the animated Star Wars then this isn't too far a stretch. See what you think.

Well? How is it looking? Is it something that you'd watch waiting for the TRON: Legacy sequel?
