Wachowski's Jupiter Rising plot revealed

Wachowskis.jpgI have to say that the insider source revealed plot for the secretive Wachowski's Jupiter Rising film is a little bit of a damp squib, in fact if I was on the Wachowski film and I saw this released I'd be rushing to get something out to spice it up because as it stands it's not really selling the film much.

The shocking reveal sounds pretty standard, although there are some nice ideas for the universe the characters are set in, the plot itself doesn't sound as mind blowing or bending as we might have been expecting through reputation alone.

I'm dubious of the insider source that reveals the plot for Jupiter Ascending because the story itself sounds weak and there are strong resemblances to films that have recently been made and released. Oh I get that at the core of every story is one of a few fundamental stories, characters falling in love against all hope, revenge for the loss of love, similarly themed tragedies that we see repeated, but here it is rather similar.

Of course what makes it different is the universe it's all within, and while there is plenty to make it a richer more exotic world for our characters to inhabit, unless it's more than window dressing then we'll be looking at the same story just with a makeover.

I'm convinced there is a lot more to this than we're hearing, but Vulture's source is convinced of what they say, here's an extract that comes through First Showing:

"...human beings are just the Cro-Magnons, or even the Australopithecines, of what beings can ultimately go on to become in the galaxy...It's a return to form for [the Wachowskis], because these higher forms of life are watching us from other, albeit this time non-meta worlds, but actual, other worlds, as in planets and moons."

I might be being a little picky but I'm confused here, it's a return to form for the Wachowski's because their human characters are being watched by a far off alien race? Why is that a return to form for them? Perhaps they mean because in Matrix humanity was being monitored. That's hardly a return to form, just a return to a familiar plot thread.

Anyway there's more to it than that, this is the first in a trilogy that sees a reluctant Russian immigrant, played by Mila Kunis, living life as a cleaning woman but actually carrying the same genetics as the Queen of the Universe and therefore is a threat to the her rule. When she finds out this she despatches an assassin to find her and kill her.

The assassin is played by Channing Tatum and amazingly the two fall in love and the assassin decides to protect her from the Queen and her forces, forces which are now being despatched to destroy them both.

You can see where this is going, and you can probably guess the very recent films that the blurb resembles.

However the source and the article do reveal something rather interesting about this new world and the beings that are watching over humanity, they have been bred with animal DNA to heighten their abilities depending upon their role in life - soldier means wolf DNA, workers means bee DNA, and so on.

Now if they weave this into the plot and make it more than window dressing then there could be something more to be had, but as it is it sounds an age old story and one we've seen a lot of.

I wonder how much of this is just backlash against Andy and Lana Wachowski for delivering something like the Matrix and not managing to follow it up? I also wonder how much of this is just the insider source underselling the plot, or perhaps not selling the plot at all.
